Abstract: The Rajhrad Monastery archive stores a relatively large amount of works, which can be characterized historiographic or at least sources for historiographic works. The foundations of this collection were laid by the Rajhrad provost Bonaventura Pitr in the mid-18th century. Many of the works are his direct autographs, but a large portion emerged by activity of a group of copyists, who copied materials from various archive resources upon his instigation. The “historiographic” tradition established by Pitr survived at Rajhrad until almost the 20th century, although in a lesser extent than at the time of its founder’s lifetime. The mentioned material is an important document for understanding the actual Rajhrad historical and historiographic activity as well as a source of the history of institutions and locations described there. The Rajhrad Monastery archive stores a large and very diverse amount of archival documents related to the history of various monasteries and other church institutions as well as the individual lands of central Europe. The presented essay does not name them all; it would be pointless because the Rajhrad archival sources are freely accessible within the Moravian Land archives in Brno and its collection is also accessible online and can be easily browsed. At present, some of the sources are being digitalized and electronically processed in detail within the project Rajhrad Benedictine Monastery as a cultural phenomenon. |
