Abstract: The article reflects the interim results of the ongoing research work devoted to detecting verbal irony in the manipulative tactics increasing the value of an interlocutor. The author examines the place of irony in discourse of positive manipulations and overviews communicative situations, in which ironic reaction of the object of manipulation is typical. The work also defines the target focus of ironic reactive utterances and analyzes situations of verbal ironic reactions taking into account extralinguistic factors. |
