Anyone familiar with the work of Yabu Pushelberg, the Toronto-based duo known for quiet, minimalist spaces, might be surprised to hear they designed the new St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, in Miami Beach, which is notable for the liberal use of mirrors and crystal. But as Glenn Pushelberg noted, the project ''started prerecession, so there's no value engineering. It feels important, special and formal, but also very glamorous -- in a way one might think Miami was in the 1960s.'' That era is most evident in public spaces like the entrance hall, pictured, with its faceted mirrors and large rock-crystal chandeliers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
