The article traces the beginnings of Linwood Furniture Inc. and the tenacity of its founder Bob Timberlake not to outsource its production to China in order to save local jobs. More than 26,000 jobs in furniture manufacturing have been lost to Asian cheap labor in North Carolina since 2000 but for Timberlake, the industry was a constant, with generations of families working in the same plant. The company faced enormous challenges to keep the vision, and though not yet profitable it has found its market niche for American made products. |
