Abstrakt: The article focuses on the expansion plans of ShoreBank Corp. The closely held affordable-housing lender aims to triple in size to $5 billion in assets over the next several years in a growth push expected to involve acquisitions, new branches and perhaps, eventually, a public offering of stock. All options are under consideration in a strategic review ShoreBank and its parent company are conducting. Long regarded as proof of the proposition that a bank can do well while doing good, ShoreBank now is poised to test a new theory--that a bank dedicated to helping the poor can get big without losing its way.
