The article focuses on the newly established European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling (RHC-Platform). It comprises four technology panels, one for each of the three renewable energy sources and a fourth for cross-cutting technologies. The RHC-Platform is officially endorsed by the European Commission, which unites industry, research and policy stakeholders from the biomass, geothermal and solar thermal sectors to identify a common strategy for the significant increase in the use of renewable energy technologies in heating and cooling. It also contributes in the identification of heating and cooling as the third pillar of energy demand, despite the fact that it accounts for half of Europe's total final energy demand. |
