Amplitude modulated noise from a single wind turbine is considered. The time-varying modulation depth D_m and the short time-average sound level L_Aeq,τ (with τ = 20 s) are measured at the reference distance d_*. Due to amplitude modulation, a pena

Wind turbines emit infrasound and low-frequency noise (ILFN), which can be annoying for people living near wind farms. To assess the acoustic impact of wind turbines on the environment, it is essential to model ILFN propagation during the forecasting

Abstract The rotor of a large diameter wind turbine experiences more substantial and more dynamic loads due to the fluctuating and heterogeneous wind field. The project SmartBlades 2.0 investigated rotor blade design concepts that alleviate aerodynam

This work presents the application and validation of a novel auralization approach for the evaluation of wind turbine noise annoyance under diverse conditions. The approach is based on the decomposition of each turbine blade into elementary short-seg

Amplitude modulation increases the annoyance caused by wind turbine noise. One gets the improved annoyance when a penalty is added to the measured or calculated time-average sound level. The amplitude modulated wind turbine noise consists of pulses.

Abstract An experimental investigation on scaled wind turbine models in a wind tunnel with a microphone array is presented. Our study focuses on the localization and quantification of aerodynamic noise sources on rotating wind turbine blades with the

The operation of a wind turbine results in a series of pulses where there is a significant instantaneous increase in the amplitude of the pressure signal, dependent upon the wind speed at the turbine blades. The variations in the amplitude of the sou

This review is focussed on large-scale, horizontal-axis upwind turbines. Vertical-axis turbines are not considered here as they are not sufficiently efficient to be deployed in the commercial generation of electricity. Recent developments in horizont
