The last instar larva and pupa of Melipotis cellaris (Guenée) are described and illustrated, based on specimens collected in northern Chile, associated with Acacia macracantha (Fabaceae).

Melipotis paracellaris n. sp. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) from Chile is described. This species is akin to M. cellaris (Guenee), but it may be recognized by the upperside of forewings and genitalia.
