Introduction: Hepatocyte transplantation (HcTx) is a possible alternative to liver tra-splantation, especially in metabolic diseases of the neonate and infant. However, hepatocyte transplantation is limited by the scarcity of hepatocytes as well as t

Isolation of primary hepatocytes and culturing these cells ex vivo provides a powerful platform to model liver physiology in vivo. Primary hepatocytes can be cultured for several days, the circadian clock can be synchronized, and these primary cells

Primary human hepatocytes (PHHs) remain the gold standard for in vitro investigations of xenobiotic metabolism and hepatotoxicity. However, scarcity of liver tissue and novel developments in liver surgery has limited the availability and quality of t

Vitrification is a promising ice-free alternative for classic slow-freezing (at approximately 1 °C/min) cryopreservation of biological samples. Vitrification requires extremely fast cooling rates to achieve transition of water into the glass phase w
