Air-to-Air Heat Pumps (HPs), used for air-conditioning buildings are very efficient as they use the atmosphere as heat source/sink to absorb/reject heat. Yet, in a town in summertime for example, heat is collectively rejected to the surrounding envir

Case studies of partial enclosures to reduce noise from residential air-to-air heat pumps are reported. Several enclosures, most quite similar in design, were built round each of four heat pumps to permit evaluation of the effect of design variables

The operation of heat pumps for residential space heating is described. The air-to-air heat pump is able to compete economically with electrical resistance heating systems. From a "prime" energy use point of view, it can raise the over-all efficiency
