Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is analysed as the weighted residual method. In particular the analysis focuses on the collocation aspect of the method. Using Monte Carlo experiments we demonstrate that SPH is highly sensitive to node disorder,

The equations of smoothed particle magnetohydrodynamics (SPMHD) are verified on a specific simple configuration of B and v fields. The verification yields a figure of merit which is then used to assess the overall accuracy of the method. The presence

We use smoothed particle hydrodynamics to investigate the 3D accretion flow in binary systems where the secondary star transfers matter on to a compact primary star via a truncated accretion disc. Our model neglects radiative cooling and has been evo

A finite element method has been used to study temperature profiles in multilayer semiconductor structures. Of particular interest is the modeling of a continuous wave energy beam similar to those typically used for electron, laser, or ion beam annea

A scanned electron beam was used to diffuse tin in GaAs from doped emulsions. Rutherford backscattering method was used to investigate the results of the diffusion. The diffusion was greatly enhanced by capping the emulsion with evaporated silicon di

The effect of photochemical surface passivation on Ti-GaAs diodes is demonstrated and discussed. The procedure described can be used to prepare a stable and repeatable GaAs surface for device processing. It is also compatible with lift-off technique.

The effects of scanning electron beam annealing of Ti-GaAs Schottky diodes on the reverse diode characteristics are observed and discussed. Significant reductions in the values of the saturation current, the generation current and the shunt current a
