This paper presents a numerical petroleum systems model for the Jurassic-Tertiary Austral (Magallanes) Basin, southern Argentina, incorporating the western part of the nearby Malvinas Basin. The modelling is based on a recently published seismo-strat

We analyse a crust-scale 3D structural model of the Western Bredasdorp Basin (WBB) located offshore southern South Africa to assess both the spatial and temporal development of geothermal gradients in the Southern African ‘passive-transform’ cont

A 3D petroleum systems model of the northern Bonaparte Basin indicates that the potential Nancar Trough source kitchen could be currently expelling hydrocarbons from numerous Jurassic source rocks into traps on the Laminaria High. Based on a range of

Hydrocarbon prospectivity in the Greater Barents Sea remains enigmatic as gas discoveries have dominated over oil in the past three decades. Numerous hydrocarbon-related fluid flow anomalies in the area indicate leakage and redistribution of petroleu

A detailed tectono-stratigraphic analysis of the Malvinas Basin was achieved by the interpretation of around 65,000 km of 2D seismic reflection profiles. Five main seismo-stratigraphic units and their sub-units, informally named units U1 to U5 a/b, b

To understand the structure of the Southwest African continental margin, a lithosphere-scale 3D structural model has been developed, covering the marginal Cretaceous-Cenozoic Orange, Luderitz, Walvis and Namibe basins, the easternmost Walvis Ridge of

The Austral Basin (or Magallanes Basin) in southern Argentina is situated in a highly active tectonic zone. The openings of the South Atlantic and the Drake Passage to the east and south, active subduction in the west, and the related rise of the And

Analysis of more than 19,000 km of multichannel seismic reflection data from the ZaiAngo Project, covering the Zaire deep-sea fan, allowed us to identify the oceanic crust and five seismostratigraphic units on the basin floor and abyssal plain. In th
