Funicin, a new antimicrobial substance, C17H18O5, was isolated from mycelial mats of Aspergillus funiculosus. The structure was elucidated to be ethyl-2-hydroxy-4-(3-hydroxy-5-methylphenoxy)-6-methylbenzoate from chemical and spectroscopic evidence.
