Highly dispersed Co nanoparticles on biomass Juncus derived carbon achieve superb nitrite reduction performances with a faradaic efficiency of 96.9% and an NH3 yield of 2.8 mol h−1 gCo−1. The catalytic mechanism is revealed by DFT calculations.
