TNFa is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is signaled through type 1 (TNFR1) and type 2 (TNFR2) receptors. TNFR1 normally mediates apoptosis, cell survival, and cytokine secretion, while TNFR2 selectively mediates cell survival and cytokine secretion.
