The accelerator has been adapted to a new region of research, that of relativistic nuclear physics. Most of the experiments performed with the Synchrophasotron pertain to particle energies of about 4 GeV/u, but some have been carried out at 4.2 Gev/u

An accelerator of relativistic nuclei at an energy of 6 GeV/u is presented in outline. The parameters of the accelerator and the characteristics of superconducting magnets with iron-shape magnetic field employed in it are given.
