Results of studying multichannel gas electron multipliers with 1-mm-thick metal electrodes, perforated over the entire working area by 1-mm-diameter holes with a 1.5-mm distance between them, and a 3-mm gap between the electrodes are described. The i

This paper reports on a study of the statistical properties of single photons emitted by a nitrogen vacancy centre using a confocal microscope and Hanbury-Brown and Twiss interferometer. High signal-to-noise photon correlation histograms from a singl

Studied in this work is the cooling of a beam of sodium atoms upon its reflection from an evanescent light wave. The cooling mechanism is associated with the spontaneous transitions of the atoms between the hyperfine-structure sublevels of the ground
A novel experiment for direct searches of the Dark Matter with liquid argon double-phase chamber with a mass of liquid Ar up to several hundred tons is proposed. To suppress the b-, g- and n0- backgrounds, the comparison of scintillation and ionizati

Theoretical and experimental studies on the properties of the radiation force acting on two-level atoms in a bichromatic standing light wave are reported. It is shown that on an atom at rest a rectified gradient force is exerted having a great magnit

We report an endlessly single mode, fiber-optic confocal microscope, based on a large mode area photonic crystal fiber. The microscope confines a very broad spectral range of excitation and emission wavelengths to a single spatial mode in the fiber.

We report the theoretical prediction and the observation of a stimulated novel magneto-optical radiation force, acting on atoms located in a static magnetic field and irradiated by the resonant field of two counterpropagating monochromatic laser beam

One-dimensional localization of sodium atoms in a standing spherical light wave has been observed. The atoms have an oscillatory motion with an amplitude of approximately lambda/10 along the nodes (or loops) of the wave.

The authors report experimental results demonstrating that the friction force acting on atoms in a bichromatic standing light wave can substantially differ from that in a monochromatic standing wave. Even a sign reversal can occur in a laser frequenc
