A quantitative comparison of the performance of four different laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy detection systems is presented. The systems studied are an intensified photodiode array coupled with a Czerny–Turner spectrometer, an intensified CC

Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy is a fast non-contact technique for the analysis of the elemental composition of any sample. Our focus is to advance this technique into a regime where we use pulse energies below 100 µJ. This regime is referred

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a well-known technique for fast, stand-off, and nondestructive analysis of the elemental composition of a sample. We have been investigating micro-LIBS for the past few years and demonstrating its applic

The detection sensitivity of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is improved by coupling it with a laser-induced fluorescence method. A waterjet sample containing 500 ppm of Pb as an analyte was ablated by a 266 nm, frequency-quadrupled Q-swi

Water contaminated with toxic heavy metals can be a great risk to humans. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a promising candidate to monitor heavy metals in aqueous solutions on site, but the sensitivity is still a major problem. To perf
