The emission behavior of polyatomic ions Cs(2)Cl(+) and Cs(2)BO(2)(+) in the presence of various carbon materials (Graphite, Carbon, SWNTs, and Fullerenes) in the ionization source of thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) has been investigated.

The thermal ion emission characteristics of graphite have been studied. The intensities of the ions M2BO+2 and M2Cl+ were greatly enhanced by coating the filament with graphite. This is because the ionization potentials of these ions were decreased.
