Bubbles tend to burst and retract into droplets. Here the authors show how a droplet can be turned into a bubble by levitating the droplets acoustically and exploiting their buckling to form gas bubbles.

Bubble formation plays an important role in industries concerned with mineral flotation, food, cosmetics, and materials, which requires additional energy to produce the liquid–gas interfaces. A naturally observed fact is, owing to the effect of sur

Spinel ZnCo2O4 nanorods were synthesized by a simple template-free hydrothermal method in the presence of zinc chloride, cobalt chloride, glucose, and urea. The phase structure, morphology and chemical composition have been characterized by X-ray dif

This paper explores the effect of the shear frequency and Prandtl number (Pr) on the procedure and pattern formation of phase separation in symmetric and asymmetric systems. For the symmetric system, the periodic shear significantly prolongs the spin

The technique of acoustic levitation normally produces a standing wave and the potential well of the sound field can be used to trap small objects. Since no solid surface is involved it has been widely applied for the study of fluid physics, nucleati

Transparent liquid marbles coated with hydrophobic silica nanoparticles were used as micro-bioreactors for embryonic stem cell (ESC) culturing. The high transparency of silica liquid marbles enables real-time and in situ monitoring of embryonic body

We study the preparation of superhydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating by a spraying method with copper mesh and aluminum plate substrates. The hydrophobicity and toughness of the resulting surfaces are investigated using water contact a

This paper presents an exploration of the phase separation behavior and pattern formation in a binary fluid with temperature-dependent viscosity via a coupled lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). By introducing a viscosity-temperature relation into the LB

Liquid marbles have promising applications in the field of microreactors, where the opening and closing of their surfaces plays a central role. We have levitated liquid water marbles using an acoustic levitator and, thereby, achieved the manipulation
