Silicon pernitride, SiN2, was synthesized from the elements at 140 GPa in a laser-heated diamond anvil cell. Its crystal structure was solved and refined by means of synchrotron-based single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The title compound crystall

High pressure experiments may yield materials with unusual combinations of properties, but typically in small amounts and unstable. Here the authors synthesize millimeter-sized samples of metallic, ultraincompressible and very hard rhenium nitride pe

Hitherto, phosphorus oxonitride (PON) could not be obtained in the form of single crystals and only powder diffraction experiments were feasible for structure studies. In the present work we have synthesized two polymorphs of phosphorus oxonitride, c

Single crystals of Pr5Si3N9, pentapraseodymium trisilicon nonanitride, were obtained by the reaction of elemental praseodymium with silicon diimide in a radio-frequency furnace at 1873 K. The crystal structure consists of a chain-like Si—N substruc

Single crystals of caesium tantalate(V), Cs10Ta29.27O78, were obtained as a serendipitous product in a welded tantalum ampoule by a blank reaction of CsBr and bismuth subnitrate [Bi5O(OH)9(NO3)4] with the container material. The crystal structure of

In the centrosymmetric title compound, [Er2(C5H5)4(C4H9O)2], each Er atom is in a distorted tetrahedral coordination environment, coordinated by two cyclopentadienyl rings and two tert-butoxy groups, forming a dimeric complex bridged through the tert

The new nitridophosphate GeP2N4 differs structurally from all other known MP2N4 phases, owing to a Ge2+ lone pair. Its stereochemical influence could be exploited to tune the properties of other compounds when M2+ is exchanged with Ge2+.
