For the B-type supergiant κ Cassiopeiae (HD 2905), variabilities with periods between several hours and a few days have been observed both photometrically and spectroscopically. A recent study of this star by Simón-Díaz et al. has revealed variabi

A linear stability analysis of models for evolved primordial stars with masses between 150 and 250 M$_{\odot}$ is presented. Strange mode instabilities with growth rates in the dynamical range are identified for stellar models with effective temperat

Variability and mass-loss are common phenomena in massive OB-type stars. It is argued that they are caused by violent strange mode instabilities identified in corresponding stellar models. We present a systematic linear stability analysis with respec

A non-radial non-adiabatic linear stability analysis of selected models for Wolf‐Rayet stars is presented. Strange-mode instabilities with growth rates in the dynamical range are found to affect both radial and non-radial perturbations up to the ha

A systematic study of the dependence on disc parameters and input physics, such as opacity and the treatment of convection, of strange-mode instabilities in thin accretion discs, which have been discovered recently, is presented. The instabilities ar

The occurrence and properties of strange modes and associated instabilities in massive stars are reviewed. If applicable, strange modes may be classified by the maximum of the opacity they are associated with. Whether they are still present in the li
