The focus of this paper is to describe and document a recent effort to assess these numerical codes for the prediction of deep-V planing craft hydrodynamic forces and moments and evaluate how well NFA models the complex multiphase flows associated wi

The paper presents some background for an analysis of the risk of severe parametric roll motion for a ship operating in head seas. This background includes a consideration of basic probabilistic qualities of parametric roll in head seas: ergodic qual

This paper is concerned with the horizontal drifting effects on ships moving with forward speed in waves. The ship configurations can be a single or multiple ships operating alongside one another. In close-in position (CIP) ship operations, the posit

This paper describes the implementation and application of a Quadratic Boundary Element Method (QBEM) to the 3-D, time domain potential flow solution of ship-wave hydrodynamic interaction problems. In QBEM, the geometry, singularity, and solution dis

The study presents a modified mathematical expression for the wave-spectrum function in the Fourier representation of the wave pattern of a ship advancing at constant speed in calm water. This new expression is obtained from the well-known usual expr

A 3-D Finite Volume method (FV3D) is developed and applied to green water problems. The Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations are discretized with the 3-D finite volume method on collocated Cartesian grids. The free surface motion is captured with the Volume

Current surface ship structural design criteria is based on the use of a standard wave for determining primary stresses. Although this approach has worked well, such methods do not explicitly account for the effects of transient hydrodynamic impacts,

The primary objective of this paper is to provide a detailed confirmation of the validity of potential-flow theory for describing steep gravity waves produced in an experimental tank. Very high-resolution computations are carried out which use a refi
