A method to approximate derivatives of real functions using complex variables which avoids the subtractive cancellation errors inherent in the classical derivative approximations is described. Numerical examples illustrating the power of the approxim

The calculation of association constants from measurements of the average number of ligands bound to a macromolecule can be reduced to the solution of a set of linear algebraic equations. However, in practice various approximations and graphical proc

Two quadrature rules based on nodes in a rhombus are used to evaluate integrals over a square with integrands which are singular on a diagonal. The rules are also compared for non-singular integrals with an equivalent product Gauss rule.

Approximate and exact methods are presented for computing a function, related to complete elliptic integrals of the first kind, which arise in the theory of microwave transmission lines. The method can be implemented on programmable hand calculators.

The quadrature rule for a finite interval obtained by transforming to an infinite range and applying the midpoint rule is examined. It is found that the condition required to make the quadrature exact for a constant integrand imposes severe practical
