Abstract Developing stable and efficient electrocatalysts is vital for boosting oxygen evolution reaction (OER) rates in sustainable hydrogen production. High-entropy oxides (HEOs) consist of five or more metal cations, providing opportunities to tun

PdCoO2 belongs to a class of materials where both weakly and strongly correlated electrons co-exist side-by-side in different layers of the crystal structure. Here, the authors investigate PdCoO2 using standing wave photoemission spectroscopy and man

Quinones and hydroquinones are small organic molecules with numerous applications: battery electrolytes, pharmaceuticals, sensors, to name a few. An understanding of their fundamental properties, such as melting points, is essential to incorporate th

Lithium ion battery electrodes employing anion redox exhibit high energy densities but suffer from poor cyclability. Here the authors reveal that the voltage of anion redox is strongly affected by structural changes that occur during battery cycling,

The surface oxygen storage capacity is an important metric of catalytic activity, but its dependence on strain is not well characterized. Here, the authors show the surface oxygen nonstoichiometry in coherently strained CeO2-δ films increases non-mo

To reliably deploy lithium-ion batteries, a fundamental understanding of cycling and aging behavior is critical. Battery aging, however, consists of complex and highly coupled phenomena, making it challenging to develop a holistic interpretation. In

Constitutive laws underlie most physical processes in nature. However, learning such equations in heterogeneous solids (e.g., due to phase separation) is challenging. One such relationship is between composition and eigenstrain, which governs the che

In ferrite-based thermochemical looping, the maximum oxygen exchange capacity usually occurs at iron-poor compositions, even when iron is the redox active element. The underlying causes are uncovered by thermodynamic and phase diagram analyses.
