Thermal modification of spruce wood (Picea abies L.) was conducted at three different temperatures (160, 200, and 240 °C) and treatment times (1, 3, and 5 h). The cyclic sorption experiments were performed for relative humidity changes of 30 to 85%.

Fungal decay results in gradual decomposition of compounds of wood cell walls. Mass loss of wood is usually applied to characterize the decay. However, mechanisms of brown and white rot decay are significantly different, resulting in different degrad

Desorption and adsorption cycles result in dimensional changes of wood. The shrinkage and swelling of wood components are accompanied by the forming and breaking of bonds at sorption sites of water molecules. These processes may lead to some reorgani

Sorption properties of paper products are important when applying paper as the packaging material. Hydrophobicity, i.e. reduced affinity of paper surface to liquid water, is of a particular importance from the point of view of the direct impact on pa
