Fonsecaea monophora, which is very similar to Fonsecaea pedrosoi in morphological features, has been commonly misdiagnosed as F. pedrosoi. Like F. pedrosoi, F. monophora has been also identified as a predominant pathogen of Chromoblastomycosis (CBM).
