In this paper, we have investigated the performance of a large-area (1 cm/sup 2/) square-shaped silicon drift detector (SDD) operating as an X-ray detector in direct conversion mode, as well as a photodetector in combination with a single crystal CsI

The short innovation cycles in communication technology require the development and optimization of high-performance dielectrics for passive integration, utilized, e.g., in band pass filters, antennas, or dielectric resonators. Applying combinatorial

The afterglow properties of (Y,Gd)2O3:Eu ceramics and related defects formed by X-ray irradiation have been investigated. Temperature-dependent afterglow measurements have been compared with thermoluminescence curves and it has been found that afterg

The properties of luminescence ceramics which are roughly based on rare-earth doped oxides, oxysulfides, garnets, and silicates have been investigated. The characteristic luminescence data of the ceramics considered, such as emission spectra and deca

The luminescence decay behaviour and thermally stimulated luminescence (TL) of ceramic samples of (Y, Gd)2O3 activated with Eu3+, Sm3+ or Dy3+ are examined. After termination of X-ray excitation, luminescence decay with corresponding typical time con

One of the most attractive applications of phosphors is their use as X-ray conversion detectors in X-ray computed tomography (CT), the dominating method of medical radiology. The principle of CT is described and the resulting requirements for potenti

A time-resolved spectroscopic study of the Pr 3+ luminescence in a fluoride glass is reported. Excitation is into the 4f5d configuration of Pr 3+ using an excimer laser. The time-resolved spectra clearly show the sequential emission of two photons.

The conversion of X-ray radiation to visible light can be performed by luminescent materials. This effect finds an attractive application in X-ray computed tomography (XCT). The centre of the XCT system with a solid state detector arrangement is the
