Abstract Space weather phenomena can threaten space technologies. A hazard among these is the population of relativistic electrons in the Van Allen radiation belts. To reduce the threat, artificial processes can be introduced by transmitting very-low

We treat whistler mode radiation from a dipole antenna in a cold magnetized plasma based on the Fresnel zone construction theory. Radiated waves from the antenna with different propagation directions interfere in space. Regions of enhanced waves are

We describe the quasi-periodic (QP) whistler-mode emissions found in the plasmasphere as detected by electric and magnetic instrumentation onboard the Demonstration and Science Experiments (DSX) spacecraft in medium Earth orbit. Over the course of th
The Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Demonstration and Science Experiments (DSX) spacecraft was launched on June 25, 2019. Although DSX flight operations were recently completed on May 31, 20...

Highly energetic electrons are trapped in the magnetic field of Earth’s radiation belts. The physical mechanisms driving the dynamics of the Van Allen belts can be understood from the electron’s energy spectrum, which is believed to be steeply fa

This paper describes version 1.5 of the AE9/AP9 family of space radiation climatology models. The most significant update is the inclusion of new data sets that change the flux maps. These new data include measurements from Van Allen Probes, Azur, an
