Crystals of p-trimethylammoniumbenzenesulfonate (ZWT) have been obtained from the thermally induced soli d-state reaction of methyl p-dimethylaminobenzenesulfonate (MSE) or by recrystallization in aqueous solution. The characterization of four crysta

The thermal isomerization reaction from methyl p-dimethylaminobenzenesulfonate (MSE) to p-trimethylammoniumbenzenesulfonate zwitterion (ZWT) in the crystalline state has been studied by optical crystallographic methods. Clear evidence of the lattice

The crystal of p-(trimethylammonium) benzenesulphonate (ZWT) undergoes a first order ferroelastic phase transition at about T3 D 386 K. It yields a tetragonal -phase at higher temperature when going from the orthorhombic -phase at lower temperature.

A p-dimethylaminobenzenesulfonate (MSE) polycrystalline powder is converted to the zwitterion p-trimethylammoniumbenzenesulfonate (ZWT) by chemical thermally induced reaction at T = 55,5°C. This reaction is associated to a first order ferroelastic p

Polarized light observations accompanied by precise birefringence measurements (within the (001) plane) of bis (n-propylammonium) tetrachlorocadmate, (n-C3H7NH3)2cdcl4, over the temperature range 8–300 K were performed. Existence of 1st order phase

Optical crystallography methods are used to characterize the tetragonal and monoclinic phases of pentachloropyridine. In spite of having very similar crystal structures (Rossell and Scott, 1973) the two phases differ distinctly as far as optical prop

The temperature dependence of the optical birefringence within the cleavage plane of the perovskite-type layer compound (C3H7NH3)2CuCl4 was measured in the region 290-450 K. The tetragonal-to-orthorhombic α - (3 ferroelastic phase transition occurs

Birefringence measurements of Rb2ZnBr4 single crystals were performed over the temperature range covering the normal-incommensurate (Ti ≈ 350 K) and incommensurate-ferroelectric (Tc = 191 K, on cooling) phase transition points. The first order char
