Unusual phenomena occurring under hydrostatic compression in the near-band-edge structure of CsI crystals were examined using the nonlinear optical technique of three-photon excitation. The lowest one-photon allowed transition to the exciton-polarito

We measured the 1s exciton energies in KI and RbI versus temperature at three different pressures via three-photon-excitation spectroscopy. The observed excitations display a Lorentzian line shape, which can be viewed as evidence that excitons and ph

Most alkali halides crystallize in the fcc sodium chloride structure. In contrast, with the exception of CsF, the Cs-halides form the simple cubic cesium chloride (CsCl) structure at ambient conditions and they have a substantially different electron

Room-temperature mixtures of hydrogen and deuterium in the fluid and solid states have been studied to 60.5 GPa (605 kbar). Raman-scattering measurements performed on these mixtures showed substantial deviations in the pressure dependence of the vibr

A detailed neutron scattering investigation has been made of the order-disorder transition in a crystal of N${({\mathrm{D}}_{0.93}{\mathrm{H}}_{0.07})}_{4}$Cl as a function of both temperature and pressure, with emphasis on the region close to the tr

Nous presentons la premiere etude diffractometrique d'un cristal liquide smectique C*, en fonction de la pression. Nous montrons qu'au voisinage de la transition smectique C* ↔ smectique A, la variation de l'angle d'inclinaison, θ, des molecules d

The lattice parameters of an anthracene crystal were measured as functions of hydrostatic pressure in the pressure range from 0–5.4 kbar using neutron diffraction techniques. The results were found to agree with previous measurements of the volume
