Het water in de Ooypolder wordt sterk beinvloed door het water van de Waal. Dit komt vooral in de chlorideconcentratie tot uiting. De concentratie in het Waalwater varieert tussen 50 mg Cl−/1 bij hoge afvoer en 300 mg Cl−/1 bij zeer lage afvoer.
