Summary1. Large doses of acetylcholine (1.20-2.85 mg) were injected in the yolk sac, air chamber, or directly on the embryo during the 4-12-day incubation period. These doses were well tolerated by the embryo and attended with no gross abnormalities.

Growth of and fatty acid synthesis in Escherichia coli were inhibited by oxygen at partial pressures above 1 atm and were prevented by exposure to oxygen at 4.2 atm on mem- branes incubated on a minimal medium. Growth and fatty acid synthesis returne

SummaryTwo anionics, a cationic and a nonionic synthetic surfactant, were examined in an in vitro phloridzinized preparation for their effects on passive intestinal permeability to glucose. These agents increased intestinal permeability to glucose in

Small goldfish ( Carassius auratus), average length 38 mm, were exposed to three conditions of stress, namely, acute anoxia, cold and inanition. Acute anoxia did not alter Na or K content of the body, but water increased 0.85%. Exposure to 4.0°C for

Albino rats exposed to 4° ± 2.0°C were sacrificed at 10, 20, 30 and 40 days. Serum electrophoretic patterns showed a marked decrease in the albumin fraction at 20, 30 and 40 days. Percentage increases in alpha1 and beta fractions occurred at diffe

SummaryMagnesium sulfate injected LP. into rats promotes synthesis of both TCA soluble and TCA insoluble glycogen fractions in the liver after one hour. Heart and skeletal muscle show a significant rise in TCA insoluble glycogen fraction after 4 hour

Hypothermia in fasted rats caused reduction of both glycogen fractions in liver and heart but did not affect skeletal muscle. Forced respiration during hypothermia prevented the reduction of residual glycogen in heart, but did not otherwise alter the

SummaryA study was made to compare the effects of dietary magnesium deficiency, cold acclimation, and thyroxine administration on liver mitochondrial fatty acid composition. Groups of singly caged rats were fed synthetic diets containing either a con

SummaryRelative concentrations of fatty acids from whole liver and liver mitochondria of cold-acclimated hamsters were analyzed by gas chromatography. Involvement of the thyroid gland was studied by the administration of PTU and thyroxine to both war
