High-velocity impacts of micrometeoroids and debris are proven causes of solar arrays power loss. Many studies have been carried out in this domain with relatively large size particles, in the range of 1 mm, causing obviously large damages, but with

International audience; There are several well-known possibilities to trigger a secondary arc on solar arrays by creation of conductive plasma produced in the gap between two solar cell strings. It could be by electrostatic discharges due to an inver

The main activity of the European Space Agency EMAGS3 study (published at 12th Spacecraft Charging Technology Conference Kitakyushu, Japan) was to simulate in-orbit electrostatic discharge, called flashover, on a flight representative panel of dimens

Space environment exposure may create cracks on solar panel backside wires. In terms of the wiring design of the solar array backside, environmental constraints applied on each wire are identical. Thus, the probability of two adjacent wires having cr

When a primary discharge occurs on a solar array, it is important to understand what would be the maximum flashover expansion. This value would then be representative of in-flight scenarios on full panel size. This paper presents the results of the e
