Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are a class of positional, geometric, conjugated dienoic isomers of linoleic acid (LA). Dietary CLA supplementation results in a dramatic decrease in body fat mass in mice, but also causes considerable liver steatosis.

Oxysterol binding protein (OSBP) homologs comprise a family of 12 proteins in humans ( Jaworski et al., 2001 ; Lehtoet al., 2001 ). Two variants of OSBP-related protein (ORP) 1 have been identified: a short one that consists of the carboxy-terminal l

The liver X receptors (alpha and beta) are oxysterol-activated nuclear receptors. A large number of liver X receptor target genes with functions in lipid homeostasis have been identified. Increasing evidence indicates that these receptors play a bene

The liver X receptors (LXRα and LXRβ) are nuclear receptor transcription factors that are activated by certain oxysterol derivatives of cholesterol. As such, LXR activity may be up-regulated by cellular lipid loading or dietary cholesterol intake.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) alpha and gamma are ligand-activated transcription factors belonging to the nuclear receptor family. PPAR alpha mediates the hypolipidemic action of the fibrates, whereas PPAR gamma is a receptor for

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors belonging to the nuclear receptor family. The hypolipidemic fibrates and the antidiabetic glitazones are synthetic ligands for PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma, r

Nuclear receptors are transcription factors that are activated by ligands and subsequently bind to regulatory regions in target genes, thereby modulating their expression. Nuclear receptors thus allow the organism to integrate signals coming from the

By using BAC transgenic mice, we have shown that increased human ABCA1 protein expression results in a significant increase in cholesterol efflux in different tissues and marked elevation in high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol levels associate

Les PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors) appartiennent a la super-famille des recepteurs nucleaires. Ils modulent la transcription de genes impliques dans le metabolisme des lipides et des lipoproteines, l'homeostasie du glucose, la pro
