A high harmonics source is used to perform x-ray resonant magnetic scattering on magnetic samples. The dynamics of laser-induced ultrafast demagnetization are probed and longer pump wavelengths are found to increase the initial quenching levels.

We demonstrate 33-fold pulse compression employing a 6-m-long hollow-core fiber and chirped mirrors. 1 mJ, 170 fs pulses at 1030 nm are compressed to 5.1 fs (1.5 optical cycles) with 70% efficiency.

Using a gas-filled stretched HCF post-compressor, we demonstrate the generation of 25 fs, 40 mJ pulses at 1 μm wavelength for noble gases and a smooth wavelength tunability up to 1.3 μm for molecular gases.
