The discovery of new Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in our Galaxy via large-scale narrowband optical surveys has been severely limited by dust extinction. Recent improvements in infrared technology have made narrowband-broadband imaging surveys viable again.

We report the results of a spectroscopic and polarimetric study of the massive, hydrogen-rich WN6h stars R144 (HD 38282 = BAT99-118 = Brey 89) and R145 (HDE 269928 = BAT99-119 = Brey 90) in the LMC. Both stars have been suspected to be binaries by pr

CX Cep (WR 151) is the WR+O binary (WN5+O5V) with the second shortest period known in our Galaxy. To examine the circumstellar matter distribution and to better constraint the orbital parameters and mass-loss rate of the WR star, we obtained broadban

In this paper we present unfiltered and multiband (i.e., UBVRI) polarimetric observations of the short-period Wolf-Rayet binary CQ Cep. Using the basic assumptions of an optically thin, corotating envelope and pointlike sources (i.e., BME78 assumptio

We follow, using both optical spectroscopy and photometry, the ‘‘ textbook ’’ colliding-wind WR+O binary WR 140 through and between the periastron passages of 1993 and 2001. An extensive collection of high-quality spectra allows us to derive

HD 5980 is a W-R+O eclipsing binary in the Small Magellanic Cloud that has attracted considerable attention since it underwent a luminous blue variable (LBV)-type outburst in 1994. Since then, intense spectroscopic and photometric monitoring have rev

We have monitored in broadband linear polarimetry two bright cataclysmic variables (CVs) around complete 5-6 hr orbital cycles, with an order of magnitude better precision than any previous observations (save those of Naylor and coworkers) for any CV
