Two important communities related to oceanography in the Baltic Sea are those working on operational oceanography and Earth system science, with focusing on the same water body but different temporal scales. They have been coordinated through two org

Ocean reanalyses provide a valuable source of data for understanding the dynamics of the ocean, climate studies and practical applications. We introduce a new CMEMS high-resolution ocean reanalysis for the Baltic Sea for the period from 1993 to 2021.

Multi-model ensembles for sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface salinity (SSS), sea surface currents (SSC), and water transports have been developed for the North Sea and the Baltic Sea using outputs from several operational ocean forecasting mo

This paper is devoted to the validation of water level forecasts in the Gulf of Finland. Daily forecasts produced by four setups of operational, three-dimensional Baltic Sea oceanographic models are analyzed using statistical means and are compared w

A two-dimensional shallow water model is used to simulate tide and storm surges for the North Sea–Baltic Sea. In order to resolve the complex coastline, a finite element model using an unstructured mesh is applied. The resolution varies from 300 m

A rotating laboratory model and two, three-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic models are used to simulate the stationary circulation of the Skagerrak region. The laboratory experiment is used as a reference solution (benchmark) for numerical simulati
