Active venting at the Aurora hydrothermal field was first located in 2014. In July 2023, the AUV/ROV Nereid Under Ice (NUI) expanded the known size of the Aurora hydrothermal field, discovering 7 ‘black smokers’ together with associated lower-tem

Antarctica's ice shelves stabilize the ice sheet and, therefore, understanding processes affecting the mass budgets of ice shelves is important for estimating grounded ice loss. To study the ice shelf dynamics, we analyzed seismological and GNSS data

The Aurora hydrothermal field (Arctic Ocean) is hosted in volcanic rocks but also shows evidence of mantle rock influence in the shallow sub-surface. Our discovery is pertinent to disciplines from marine mining to the search for life beyond Earth.

Abstract Ultraslow spreading ridges form the slowest divergent plate boundaries and exhibit distinct spreading processes in volcanically active magmatic sections and intervening amagmatic sections. Local seismicity studies of ultraslow spreading ridg

The Fram Strait opening is associated with a complex stress regime that results from the oblique relation between two ultra-slow spreading mid-ocean ridges, the Molloy ridge (MR) and the Knipovich Ridge (KR), offset by the Molloy Transform Fault (MTF

In recent years hydrothermal vent systems were found in unexpectedly high abundance along ultraslow spreading ridges, despite their overall decreased magma supply. Thin oceanic crust and resulting shallow heat sources can drive hydrothermal fluid cir

The thermal state of the lithosphere and related geothermal heat flow (GHF) is a crucial parameter to understand a variety of processes related to cryospheric, geospheric, and/or biospheric interactions. Indirect estimates of GHF in polar regions fro
