We present a review of materials related to a chirp ionosonde and its application in the ionospheric research. The principle of operation of an ionosonde radiating a continuous signal with linear frequency modulation is described. The chirp-ionosonde

We present the results of observations of round-the-world (RTW) signals by the Russian chirp-sounder network in 1997-1999. The frequency-time intervals of the RTW propagation with minimum attenuation are determined. Using numerical simulations of HF

A theoretical analysis is made of the chirp-ionosonde signal structure for the one- and two-hop propagation in a randomly inhomogeneous ionosphere. For the two-hop propagation, the influence of an additional wave scattering from ground roughnesses is

The ionospheric response to the total solar eclipse of 1997 March 9 was considered on the database of some ionosondes (longitudinal chain) and Irkustsk incoherent scatter radar. The deviations of ionospheric parameters as a consequence of solar eclip

We analyze theoretically the structure of a chirp-ionosonde signal for the cases of one- and two-hop propagation in the randomly inhomogeneous ionosphere. For the case of two-hop propagation, wave scattering by the rough ground is taken into account.

Observational results obtained during the solar eclipse of 22 July 1990 using the oblique sounding method for a mid-latitude, Irkutsk to Nizhny Novgorod path are presented. A chirp sounder with high time delay and frequency resolution was used in the

Of decisive importance in diagnosing the ionospheric channel is the use of vertical-incidence sounding (VS) ionograms. The ionogram processing problem involves identifying characteristic points corresponding to actual signal modes, followed by approx
