A piecewise model of a string which allows to define a distance between two strings is proposed. The model can be applied to problems of fuzzy matching and text analysis and the model can be used with cyclic strings.

The problem of separation of elastic and inelastic parts of a proton spectrum ofnp-interaction at energies 1–2 GeV is successfully solved. The factor of suppression of the inelastic background equals five at energy Tn=2 GeV.
