It is shown that the deactivation of Na-promoted Pt/TiO2 catalysts is due to increasing the strenght of Pt−Co bond. This can be attributed to the variations in the chemical composition and the structure of CO-containing platinum compounds.

Electrolytic supporting of metallic sodium on the surface of TiO2 and Pt/TiO2 films is shown to change significantly the Fermi level of the semiconductor substrate already at small concentrations of sodium. The steady-state catalytic activity changes
