The energies of the As− fine structure components 4p43P1 and 4p43P0 have been determined relative to the 4p43P2 ground state by using photodetachment electron spectroscopy. Fine structure splittings of ΔE(3P1 − 3P2) = 125(3) meV and ΔE(3P0 −

Measurements of the photodetachment cross section of have been performed in the vicinity of the threshold, with photon energies ranging from 5.23 - 6.04 eV. The experimental cross section is nearly constant throughout this energy region, in marked co

We report on the first observation of resonance structure in the total cross section for the photodetachment of ${\mathrm{Li}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. The structure arises from the autodetaching decay of doubly excited ${1P}^{o}$ states of ${\mathrm{Li}}^

A new ion beam apparatus, designed for collinear photodetachment experiments, has been constructed. Negative ions are formed on a surface ionizer, mass selected in a sector magnet and directed into a field-free region where they are merged with a las

The specific mass shift in the electron affinity between ^{35}Cl and ^{37}Cl has been determined by tunable laser photodetachment spectroscopy to be -0.51(14) GHz. The isotope shift was observed as a difference in the onset of the photodetachment pro

We present the results of experimental studies of photon-negative ion interactions involving the dynamics of two electrons. Resonances associated with doubly excited states of Li^- and He^- have been observed using laser photodetachment spectroscopy.

Negative ions are especially sensitive to electron correlation since in these loosely bound systems the electron-electron interaction can become comparable to or dominate the electron-core interaction. This statement is particularly true in the case

We have investigated doubly excited states in ${\mathrm{Li}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ by measuring the relative partial cross section for photodetaching the ${\mathrm{Li}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ ion via the $\mathrm{Li}(3s){+e}^{\ensuremath{-}}(\ensuremath{\vare

Cross sections for photodetaching an electron from a B{sup {minus}} ion have been determined at photon energies of 1.871 and 2.077 eV. A crossed laser--ion-beam apparatus was used to determine the cross sections of B{sup {minus}} relative to those of
