The method of semiempiric-atomistic calculations is applied to a polydiene. For this purpose a Coulomb term has to be added to a potential set used successfully for polyolefines. All stable 4 *p/q helices of poly(trans-1,4-butadiene) are calculated.

A model is proposed for the electrical polarization that causes the orientation and, hence, the electric birefringence of a suspension containing single crystals of a poly(ethylene oxide)–polystyrene diblock copolymer or a poly(ethylene oxide) homo

The plasma treatments, corona and low-pressure plasma, were applied to two so-called high-performance thermoplastics, polyetherimide ( pei ), a liquid crystalline polymer ( lcp ) and, for comparison, to polypropylene ( pp ). The treated surfaces were

Using high pressure dilatometers, the specific volume of isotactic polypropylene has been measured as a function of temperature and pressure up to 3.5 kbar. Up to 1 kbar this has been done not only for a commercial whole polymer, but also for sharp f

The temperature and pressure dependence of the translational B1u-lattice vibration has been determined in the pressure range of 7 kbar and a temperature range of almost 200 K from room temperature upwards. For some pressure values the Gruneisen Param

Based on a Grubb-Parsons cube interferometer an instrument was developed for use with a high pressure optical cell. The light from the lamp is made parallel and, after interference, focussed on to a sample of approximately 2.5 mm dia between diamond

High pressure dilatometry is used to study the melting processes and the melt of isotactic polybutene-1. Evaluating a great number of isobaricV(T)-curves determined in the range of a few hundred bar the pressure dependence of the melting temperature

The experimental techniques are enumerated which were up to present used to investigate the high pressure phase in linear polyethylene. The crystallographic data of this phase which is hexagonal are tabulated. In part they come from wide angle X-ray

Results from high pressure dilatometry onn-alkanes and linear polyethylene and literature data yield a linear relation between specific volume, entropy and enthalpy of fusion, the reciprocal melting temperature and 1/n, wheren denotes the number of C
