There were two goals for this funded project: 1. Studies of plasma wakefields for high repetition-rate plasma collider, and 2. Theoretical study of laser-plasma proton and ion acceleration. For goal 1, an analytical model was developed to determine t

The recent experimental progress in plasma wakefield accelerator (PWFA) experiments [I. Blumenfeld et al., Nature 445, 741 (15 February 2007)] make it possible to contemplate the application of the PWFA to a future electron positron linear collider.

In this work we analyze the longitudinal instabilities of propagating acceleration structures that are driven by a relativistically intense laser at the moving plasma critical layer [1]. These instabilities affect the energy-spectra of the accelerate

A pipelining algorithm to overcome the limitation on scaling quasi-static particle-in-cell models of relativistic beams in plasmas to a very large number of processors is described. The pipelining algorithm uses multiple groups of processors and opti

We report the generation of variable plasma densities up to 1019 cm-3 in hydrogen-filled hollow cathode capillary discharges and consider their applications as a practical plasma source for particle-beam-driven plasma wakefield accelerators. The capi

The energy frontier of particle physics is several trillion electron volts, but colliders capable of reaching this regime (such as the Large Hadron Collider and the International Linear Collider) are costly and time-consuming to build; it is therefor
