article i nfo The Bruun Rule (Bruun, 1954, 1962) provides a relationship between sea level rise and shoreline retreat, and has been widely applied by the engineering and scientific communities to interpret shoreline changes and to plan for possible f

St. Augustine Inlet is located on the NE coast of Florida, connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Tolomato and Matanzas rivers. The inlet is unique because it was relocated in the 1940s, resulting in considerable perturbations to the adjacent coastal s

Future shoreline changes on a sandy beach with a structure such as a jetty or groin can be estimated when wave time series is known (i.e. sequence of wave height, period, and direction). This paper presents an extension of an existing solution ( Peln

The littoral drift rose (LDR) concept is presented herein for improvement in understanding of longshore sediment transport and consequent shoreline processes in areas with smooth (gradually varying) offshore bathymetry extending over a coastal region

Present criteria for acceptable grass covered levee overtopping are based on average overtopping values but do not include the effect of overtopping duration. This paper applies experimental steady state results for acceptable overtopping to the case

Open coast storm surge water levels consist of a wind shear forcing component generally referred to as a wind setup; a wave setup component caused by wind induced waves transferring momentum to the water column; an atmospheric pressure head component

Future sea level rise will lead to salt water intrusion, beach/dune recession, and many other coastal problems. This paper addresses a data based forecasting approach to provide relative sea level rise estimates at locations in Florida where historic
