Seismic exploration of deep oil/gas reservoirs involves wave propagation in high-pressure media. Acoustoelasticity with the third-order elastic constants can account for nonlinear strain responses due to stresses of finite magnitude. Since current se

Insights into wave propagation in prestressed media are important in geophysical applications such as monitoring changes in geo-pressure and tectonic stress. This can be addressed by acoustoelasticity theory, which accounts for nonlinear strain respo

In the poroelasticity theory of de la Cruz and Spanos, fluid shearing within the viscous boundary layer, i.e. fluid vorticity, manifests as an independent process, namely the diffusive slow shear wave. Quantifying its impact on elastic wave propagati

Understanding seismic wave propagation in granular porous media is important for subsurface characterization. The presence of fluids, their distribution, and the prevailing wettability condition result in additional complexities. Although it is known
The production of shale gas plays an important role in the global oil/gas industries, which is considered to approach about 1/3 of the total natural gas production at 2040. In recent years, Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation shale in Sichuan Basin has becom

The reservoir rocks from Chang-7 member of Yanchang Formation of Ordos Basin are characterised with heterogeneous fabric structures at the pore scale, and low porosity/permeability is exhibited at the macro scale. Precise prediction of reservoir brit

The shear motion in Newtonian fluids, that is, the fluid vorticity, represents an intrinsic loss mechanism governed by a diffusion equation. Its description involves the trace-free part of the fluid viscous stress tensor. This part is missing in the

We examine the effect of poroelastic boundary conditions when determining elastic properties of fluid‐saturated porous rocks from forced‐oscillation laboratory experiments. One undesired yet often unavoidable complication in the estimation of the

We have predicted the flow permeability and its spatial distribution for the Longmaxi shale gas reservoir using microseismicity induced during hydraulic-fracturing stimulation. In the time-of-occurrence versus distance-from-injector plot, we find tha
