Recently it was discovered that van der Waals bonded magnetic materials retain long range magnetic ordering down to a single layer, opening many avenues in fundamental physics and potential applications of these fascinating materials. One such materi

Light-matter interactions are key in providing fundamental information about materials. Even in the linear-response regime, the spectroscopic response of a material encodes in it many properties of the ground state as well as of its excitations. This

The discovery of 2-dimensional (2D) materials, such as CrI3, that retain magnetic ordering at monolayer thickness has resulted in a surge of both pure and applied research in 2D magnetism. Here, we report a magneto-Raman spectroscopy study on multila

Polarization-resolved Raman spectroscopy was performed and analyzed from large, high-quality, monodomain single crystal of $\ensuremath{\alpha}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{RuCl}}_{3}$, a proximate Kitaev quantum spin liquid. Spectra were collected w
Time domain terahertz spectroscopy typically uses mechanical delay stages that inherently suffer from non-uniform sampling positions. We review, simulate, and experimentally test the ability of corrective cubic spline and Shannon re-gridding algorith

We studied the novel multiferroic material ${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}{\mathrm{FeSi}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{7}$ and found three absorption modes above the magnetic ordering transition temperature using time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. These absorption modes can

We report on the design and construction of a broadband quarter wave plate for use with time domain terahertz spectroscopy. We use the principle of a Fresnel rhomb for its construction, and show tests on its performance in polarization measurements.
For collections of particles in a thermal bath interacting with an asymmetric substrate, it is possible for a ratchet effect to occur where the particles undergo a net dc motion in response to an ac forcing. Ratchet effects have been demonstrated in
