Rofecoxib (VIOXX®) is a selective inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase-2 and is indicated for the treatment of acute pain. Prior acute pain studies showed similar analgesic efficacy of rofecoxib 50 mg compared with analgesics doses of non-selective NSAIDs.
