We present an overview of fiber amplifier power-scaling and beam-combining at AFRL. Nonlinear mitigation and power-scaling results of kW amplifiers is discussed. Here nonlinear suppression is attained through phase modulation and laser gain competiti

Hybrid microstructured fibers, utilizing both air holes and high index cladding structures, provide important advantages over conventional fiber including robust fundamental mode operation with large core diameters (>30μm) and spectral filtering (i.

An acoustic and gain tailored photonic crystal fiber (PCF), and a hybrid microstructured fiber, were used to demonstrate near diffraction limited output powers of 1160W and 820W, respectively, with spectral linewidths ≤1GHz. Both amplifiers suffici

We report results from two ~1.5 kW Yb-doped fiber amplifiers with comparable optical to optical efficiencies and linewidths. One amplifier utilized a fiber with a core diameter of 25 μm while the core diameter of the fiber utilized in the other ampl

We present multi-kW power scaling results of narrow line Yb-doped fiber amplifiers. Nonlinear suppression is attained through pseudo-random modulation. Subsequently, 5 pseudorandom modulated kW amplifiers were coherently combined into a 5kW beam.

White noise phase modulation (WNS) and pseudo-random binary sequence phase modulation (PRBS) are effective techniques for mitigation of nonlinear effects such as stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS); thereby paving the way for higher power narrow li

As part of an investigation of the interactions between solar-wind ions and cometary gases, UV/X-ray and optical measurements of the photons resulting from collisions of O5+ with CO have been made. Although O5+ is not a major solar-wind ion, its inte
